About Us

Hello,

I’m Dawn Gayle

I’m an Occupational Therapist with a background in both education and healthcare, and a lifelong passion for helping people discover their strengths and live fulfilling lives. I hold a First-Class Honours degree in Special Educational Needs and Disability from the University of Derby, and a Master’s in Occupational Therapy (Merit) from Sheffield Hallam University. My career has taken me from working as a SEND teaching assistant in schools, to roles in the NHS and social care promoting community-based independence, and most recently into specialist paediatric practice. Each role has strengthened my belief that therapy should be inclusive, compassionate, creative, and led by the person’s own goals.

I am also a certified Sensory Inclusion Facilitator (Sensory Integration Education, 2025). Through my practice, Peace Lily OT, I work with schools, community organisations and CICs to create environments that enable every individual to participate, learn, and thrive. I support teams to understand sensory processing and how it shapes engagement, learning, and wellbeing. Together, we identify sensory barriers within environments, routines, and tasks, and we develop practical, evidence-informed adaptations that promote inclusivity and meaningful participation across the whole setting.

I combine this sensory inclusion approach with my broader occupational therapy expertise to offer a range of tailored support, including sensory audits and environment observations, staff training and consultation on sensory-inclusive strategies, and individual or group interventions for children or adults with sensory processing differences. I also assist organisations with developing sensory-inclusive wellbeing and creative projects.

Alongside my clinical work, I am a trained curtain and roman blind maker, a practice that brings together precision, patience, and the therapeutic power of making. This love of creativity naturally led to the creation of Threads & Therapy, my community workshop initiative where sewing becomes a pathway to wellbeing, self-expression, confidence, and connection. It is a space where the act of creating with our hands becomes as meaningful as the finished piece, and where people can feel seen, valued, and supported.

At the heart of my work is the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to feel regulated, included, and empowered in the spaces they move through each day. My role is to help create those conditions, one person, one environment, and one community at a time.

The Story Behind Peace Lily OT

Peace Lily OT grew from my wish to combine clinical expertise with creative, community-based support. The peace lily flower, a symbol of calm and resilience, perfectly reflects my approach: celebrating difference, adapting with care, and encouraging growth.

Whether I’m supporting a child in school, helping a neurodiverse adult at work, or guiding a group through mindful sewing, my focus is always the same: to listen, empower, and create spaces where people can flourish.

Peace Lily isn’t just a service - it’s a space where individuals and communities can thrive, together.

“I believe everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and able to participate in life in a way that feels true to who they are. I always begin with the person, not the problem.”
